Where am I?

Saturday, March 19

19 Mar 2022 – 23 Jun 2022

Open Tuesdays to Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10am-5pm

Co-curated and designed with Culture Club, in partnership with Pride in Plymouth, ‘Where Am I?’ is an exhibition that uses items and objects from The Box’s collections to explore the lived experiences of different communities.

Culture Club first came together virtually during the 2021 lockdown. The group, which identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community, has identified works of art, objects, photographs, films and archival material that resonated with its members, in either asking questions or exploring issues further.

Where am I? This central question has run throughout Culture Club’s activity.

  • Where am I? In terms of representation of LGBTQ+ artists and makers
  • Where am I? In terms of representation in works of art
  • Where am I? In terms of representation in the media collections
  • Where am I? In terms of representation in ‘official’ collections and archives

The research and exploration undertaken by the group will be reflected alongside images, archival material, film and artworks.
