Which of these Two Lovers Most Deserves Our Prayers?

We think we know those we love, those we work with, those we live with.
But do we ever really know what goes on in the hearts and minds of others?

A year after her younger brother Matthew Weekes was hanged outside Bodmin Jail in 1844 for the murder of the serving girl Charlotte Dymond, Matthew’s sister (married and living in Plymouth) journeys to Camelford to confront those who knew the tragic young lovers.

This original play is based on the true story of the murder of 18 year old Charlotte Dymond on Sunday 14 April 1844 and the subsequent (now disputed) death sentence passed on her 20 year old lover Matthew Weekes. Our four characters were real people but the conflict we placed them in a year later is imagined and serves to remind us all that “no man is an island….any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind.”

“This Story of Ours” was written and directed by P & J Shryane and is performed by Clare Crowther, Becky Martin, Jack Rees and Clive Rowe. The performance lasts approximately 50 minutes.

“My brother could not have done this deed…”
“Your brother were a briar hedge, difficult to fathom..”
