Sitting with the Darkness

Thursday, November 23

An exhibition of ceramics followed by a poetry soundscape performed in total darkness. Content warning: exploring the theme of child abuse.

Sitting with the Darkness is a unique experience hosted in the South Gallery of The Box for one night only. The exhibition explores the emotional impact of child abuse through ceramic artworks, paintings, and a 15 minute poetry soundscape performed in total darkness.

Jane McEwen is a cermacist studying her MA at Arts University Plymouth. Thom Boulton is the former Poet Laureate for Plymouth (2016-20) and has given words to the experiences that have come from Jane’s studies. In collaboration with musician Dan Morgan (front-man for Exeter based group Ashen) they have created an experience that explores the varying degree of emotions though music, sound recordings, and performance poetry.
