Performance Workshop with Pete “the Temp” Bearder

Thursday, September 14

Pete will be running a two hour workshop that will help people get into performance or hone the skills they already have.

Write an original piece of spoken word poetry and scratch it to the accompaniment of lived improvised orchestral harp. This is a unique opportunity to learn stagecraft and pagecraft from two professional poet-performers. All participants will get to explore and enjoy the ancient and living relationship between spoken verse and harps, koras, lutes and lyres. You will also learn a little about the role these instruments play in the history of the bardic tradition. This workshop is open to writers/ perfomers of all abilities and levels of experience (poets, authors, singers, rappers, comics, spoken word artists).

The workshop is led by Pete “the Temp” Bearder (poet), Tom “T.S Idiot” Stockley (poet) & Emmy the Harp (harpist). Pete is an award-winning spoken word poet, author and comic. His work has been featured on BBC Radio 4, The World Service, and Newsnight. Emmy is a classically trained harpist with a lifelong dedication to her craft. Her collaborations include duets and bands ranging from prog-rock to afrobeat. Tom has performed alongside Attila The Stockbroker, TV Smith and the Subway Sect – and graced the stages and airwaves of Raise The Bar, Apples & Snakes and BBC Arts. They were shortlisted for the Outspoken Prize for Poetry 2023.

1-3pm at Oxford House Creative Hub, Adelaide Street, Stonehouse.
