Monoprint Masterclass with Bench Allen and Common Sense

Saturday, August 21

Rockpools, like miniature ocean ecosystems, have fascinated and excited us all since we took that first gaze into the mysterious isolated watery world. Now Common Sense and artist Bench Allen are going to show you how to bring that wonderous world alive though the medium of monoprint. Using a method that sits nicely between screenprinting and painting, we will create one-of-a-kind prints that will allow you to not only make and keep your own rockpools, but we will show you how easy it is to make these pieces yourself. You will also get the chance to get an insight into the printing world and learn what else printmaking has to offer – Sun, Sea and Print, what more could you want?!

Bench Allen is a London based printmaker and illustrator, hailing from the Ocean City of Plymouth. Known for his encyclopaedic documenting of natural history and specialising in nautical narratives; his work is inspired by the beauty of the natural and unnatural world – from the Mariana Trench to the Crab Nebula.

Attendees with a current university or higher education email address can contact membership@realideas.org with a confirmation of their booking which will entitle them to a free month of Connect membership – providing further access to the print and co-work facilities at Ocean Studios.
