Black History Month was founded to recognise the contributions that people of African and Caribbean backgrounds have made to the UK over many generations, Over the years Black History Month has expanded to include the history of not just African and Caribbean people but black people in general. This year we are putting together a whole month of events to celebrate and raise awareness of Black History in Plymouth. These events help increase the visibility of the diverse communities, business owners, organisations and networks in Plymouth and help our friends, neighbours, partners and ourselves become leaders in addressing diversity issues.
Arts University Plymouth and Diversity Business Incubator have partnered to organise a 1 day family day which will be open to everyone to attend and will consist of Storytelling, games, workshops and a cultural fashion show to close the month-long festivities.
We would like to invite people from the community to bring their families to an event where they can share and listen to old folktales while playing games, participating in workshops and showcasing their cultural clothes. The day will consist of Arts & Crafts with some games to get the children and young people involved. In addition to that, the cultural fashion show which was inspired by The Giveback Project Refugee week fashion show will allow anyone from the community to showcase some of their cultural wear from their homeland.
