The Box

The Box is Plymouth’s award-winning museum, art gallery and archive.

A place where heritage meets contemporary art and archives meet interaction. A museum, gallery and archive. A Kitchen & Bar. A cafe. A shop. A space to research. A place that you can make your own, and where there’s always something new to discover.

The Box brings six outstanding collections of art, human history, natural history, film, photography and archival material together, showcased in a series of exciting spaces.

It also has a fun and ambitious programme of events and exhibitions on offer throughout the year. This autumn, it’s one of the host venues for ‘British Art Show 9’ – the UK’s most ambitious touring exhibition of contemporary art.

In addition to its standard opening hours of 10am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday, The Box is open from 10am-5pm on Easter, May and August Bank Holidays. It’s closed on the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays. The Cottonian Research Room is available by appointment Tuesday to Saturday.
